Hi,

Just seen this on Npower's website, sounds a good offer if you qualify - it starts on the 14th July apparantly but I have today just registered myself (am over 60and certainly earn less than £13.5k) .

npower's Spreading Warmth tariff

A new tariff for vulnerable customers

What is the Spreading Warmth tariff? It is a new tariff from npower that delivers a total dual fuel annual discount of £250 Exc. VAT (£125 per fuel) to our vulnerable customers with limited incomes.

In addition to significant savings from the tariff, these customers could also benefit from npower's Spreading Warmth 'whole home' approach, helping them save money and energy, including a benefits entitlement check, payment method advice and access to free energy efficiency advice and measures.

When is it available? The new tariff is currently due to be available from 14th July 2008.

When will the discount be paid?Generally, the discount will be paid on the first npower bill issued after 1st January 2009. If you are a dual fuel customer, the discount will be paid as a discount of £125 on each bill issued after 1st January 2009. Prepayment customers who sign up to the new tariff will be communicated to separately regarding how their discount will be paid.

Who is eligible?Existing single or dual fuel customers currently on npower’s standard, Fix for Free or Fixed 2011 tariffs (all payment methods included), who have an annual household income of less than £13,500 and meet at least one of the eligibility criteria below:
  • Aged over 60
  • Have a disability
  • Suffer from a chronic illness
  • Have children under the age of 16

Presumably you live alone? as the offer is for annual household income under £13,500; and that is income from all sources.

I can't see NPower making it easy.

    Yes, I do live alone.

Still, not a bad offer for people over 60, or disabled, sick etc who only have a small income.

    Hi,

Well I don't know too much about individual tariffs etc, I just pay my bills when they dropped through the letter box every quarter. They did say I could save a further £80.00 by using Direct Debit but I just prefer to pay my bills up fully every quarter. If they send me an estimated bill, I read my own meter and send them the readings and I then get an amended bill which I pay. Its just the way I prefer to do it as my Water, Gas, Electric bills all arrive in consecutive months so never have three at once. Although a friend of mine from the British Legion has some sort of Tariff and he has been accepted on this scheme.

Anyway, when I rang, I was asked usual stuff like name, address etc. They asked for my account number which I got off my previous bill. They then obviously looked up my account on their system. They then asked about my age, disability, income etc and wanted an up to date meter reading. They then told me I qualified and would receive £125 credited to my Electric Bill, and £125.00 credited to my gas bill in January 2009. They said confirmation will follow in the post within five days.

It was as simple as that.

    Peter.

You can't get this tariff if you're on the SOL rates.

    Hello Ducks,
I would still like to know what the tarriff is as my total earning are quiet a lot below £13,500, I do get the £80 discount.

    many thanks

really annoyed about this one as it penalises families.I'm on low DLA and have 4 kids. They dont count the DLA but do count incap and child benefit and child tax credit.Guess what...i'm over the limit. We'll have to snuggle up this winter.

    good for singletond though.
Every day above ground is a good one ;)
  • Hi,

I just wanted to put a post on about this. I have recently become disabled and am not able to work so my household income (being only me) is under £13,500

I had not heard about this offer but did a bit of digging on the net as i am concerned how i will afford to heat my flat this winter.

I found the details of Npower quite easily, i called them and that was that. Apparently i am now on this and will get confirmation in the post. As i have both gas and elec with them on pre-payment cards, i qualify for £125 credit off each of them. Brilliant! If this is the case, it'll be a real help, it's all well and good the government setting limits of what an adult should cost to live per week, but this can't be the case with the fast increasing costs of the present economic climate, they need to take that into consideration.

Anyway, good on Npower if this works, makes a change for utility companies to give us something!:T
