Exhorbitant baggage charges

My family are due to fly out from Belfast International on Tuesday with Aer Lingus to Nice. Went on to the site today to book in our luggage - £16 per suitcase return!! I don't mind paying something but that seems a bit much to me! When I originally booked the flights online, I went through the usual booking palava and it came to pre-booking seats (for which they were charging). It asked did I want to proceed or just arrive at the airport. I decided I didn't need to pre-book seats so ticked 'no'. I couldn't go any further on the booking site - I was redirected back and was forced to pre-book and pay for seats. Now today I find that I am going to be charged an outrageous sum of money to take necessary luggage with me! How unfair is that?

Its not great and Lyinair are the worst for it. I was in the process of booking a trip with 1p flights only gor extras like checking in at airport and baggage costs being added to the total so it brought the total bill to £100!

They have also increased their card charges as well, I guess to get around charging a fuel surcharge.

If you'd been travelling Ryanair then the first bag would have been £16 return and subsequent bags £32 return.

If you didn't add the first bag at the time of booking then the first bag would be £32 return

Plus your total checked luggage allowance would have been 15kg and not 20kg

That's the way of the world these days - you don't have to buy the flight

Don't know about the compulsory seat purchase but I suspect you missed something as I haven't heard of this happening before

It is possible to continue on from the 'pre booking' page on the Aer Lingus website. It would appear the page has been written however to mislead you into thinking you can't. Poor show really.

Just like Ryanair - wonder if they use the same web developers?
