We got a young cat who refused to come down stairs for two months,he lived under the bed most of that time.We spent most of the time lying on the floor talking to him, while he sat looking suspiciously at us.One day, out of the blue we turned round to see him sitting in the living room.He was fine after that. I'm sure your girls will come down when they are ready.I think perhaps you may just have to go to them for now.

Thanks you sooo much, at least I know that someone had the same thing happen. That makes me feel a whole lot better, will just leave them too it then, thanks xx

... my existing male cat eats on the stairs (so my hunger driven goldie doesnt eat it) ....

I wonder if this is where your problem lies. The new cats possibly regard the stairs as the male cat's 'territory', therefore don't feel comfortable entering it.

Would your male cat get terribly upset if you moved his feeding place for a while to see if that makes any difference?
