We got a young cat who refused to come down stairs for two months,he lived under the bed most of that time.We spent most of the time lying on the floor talking to him, while he sat looking suspiciously at us.One day, out of the blue we turned round to see him sitting in the living room.He was fine after that. I'm sure your girls will come down when they are ready.I think perhaps you may just have to go to them for now.0

I wonder if this is where your problem lies. The new cats possibly regard the stairs as the male cat's 'territory', therefore don't feel comfortable entering it.
Would your male cat get terribly upset if you moved his feeding place for a while to see if that makes any difference?“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0
