one way travel insurance?

Hi - Myself and my partner are going to be coming back to the UK soon after spending 2 years in Australia. We are planning to make a bit of a trip of it - visiting NZ, North Queensland, Singapore, malaysia before flying back from Bangkok (51 days travel in all) .
The problem is I can't seem to get travel insurance for a one way trip! - I also wanted to take out an annual policy (including winter sports) as once back home we are likely to do some more travelling around.
Some questions:
Is there a need to buy travel insurance from our country of departure (ie OZ) or can we buy it from the UK for this trip? (I have a home in the UK)
Where can you get one way travel insurance from?
any advice would be welcome as I have only managed to get one quote over here and that was for £200 each just for the trip home! (for ref I am fit and aged 40!)
cheers

I think your problem will be the length of your trip rather than the fact it is one way.
If you try some of the annual travel insurance companies. check their terms carefully. It may be worth ringing them rather than doing it online.
American Express do a range of policies so it might be worth trying them.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Be careful if you buy travel insurance from a UK based company whilst you are not in the UK. The policy wording will probably state that you must be in the UK at the start of the trip (in your case the trip home) and if you then try and make a claim they won't pay. If you do try someone in the UK i'd reccomend calling whomever you choose and speaking to someone and explaining your situation, if they can't help they may be able to point you in the right direction.
i'd guess that Australia is going to be the easiest place to start for this kind of thing, the only other option I can think of is the possibility of a large company with operations in both oz and the uk or worldwide who might be able to help.0 -
Hi ... I could be wrong, but I don't think you have a choice in this - namely you have to take out the initial (trip) insurance you need in Australia, and then anything else you need (the winter sports etc) once you are back in the UK.
I make those comments based on the definitions most often found in any travel insurance, such as:
Resident of the UK: A person who has their main home in the UK, including the Channel Islands
Home: Your permanent Home in the UK or the Channel Islands.
Journey : a journey abroad within the specified geographical region that begins in the UK and ends when you return home
I could be wrong ... apologies if I am.If many little people, in many little places, do many little things,
they can change the face of the world.
