Debt demand on prepayment meter

We had a letter recently from southern electric stating we owe them approximately £180.
We are on a prepayment meter and have had no prior debt.
Is this because of prices going up?
Should we have had our meter recallibrated and are they at fault if they haven't contacted us to do so?

any help gratefully received.

It does seem it would be a failure for the meter to be calibrate, But under the terms and condition of the account you will be liable for the charges as you are in a rolling contract with them,

Is it a key meter? as the key is ment to update the meter as it transfers info between the shop paypoint and your meter

Best thing to do would be to get them to spread the cost over a few months.

    Hope this help

It's not a key, it's a token meter ,ie we get the card swiped and the shop give us a card to put in the meter.
  • Hello adea,

My name is David and work for Southern Electric, I don't deal with key meters but I can assure you that we do not back bill customers if there has been a price increase and we have not implimented the increase on the meter, some companies do I understand, but we do not.

This would appear to be another problem. If you would like me to look into this for you please email your postcode and house number to david.davison@scottish-southern.co.uk
