never had an electricity bill!

Yep I think it really comes down to what you morally think is right. If I was in the situation I would be tempted to continue as you, however, as Networkguy said, keep a record of your meter readings so you know the actual consumption. When they catch up with you they may question why you have this and didn't contact them earlier, so best be prepared.0

this happened to me.
constant requests for bills, received nothing, apart from a few welcome-type letters and free lightbulbs!
eventually i received a disconnection notice out of the blue. made a complaint through energywatch. they billed me. turns out there were problems with the meter so they installed a new one. now i have a new account (new meter), which is being billed properly, but i still havent paid the 2years worth of arrears (old account). i am waiting for them to apply their 12 month back-billing rule. they can't seem to manage to do this.
incompetence is too light a word for them.
ironically i work for an energy company.

We have been with British Gas for the past 18 months and they still haven't managed to work out how much we owe them for electricity. They are aware of it, and it's something to do with the serial number on the meter which somehow they can't get linked into their system. They told us that once they work out how much electricity we've used they can only charge us for the past 12 months (as others on here have said) so anything before that we won't pay for.0

if they send you a bill for it, will it be based on current prices (i can't see how else they could do it)? if so, get in touch with them asap because if you wait 3/4 months it will be a lot more if prices rise as much as everyone expects.:happyhear0

yes, they can back bill using the prices that were in force at the time. Estimated readings will be used at each price change. Took them 4 years to realise we were not billed and received a big discount( year thing was not in force them), however since then have repeated problems with bills.
I would be tempted to say nothing (but keep saving in a separate account). I say this not because of the idea of futher free elec( tempting though it is) but trying to get BG to sort out anything is a nightmare, and can you really be bothered with all the phone calls/headaches. Might as well wait for them to realise.0 -
I remember that in one of my student flats we kept objecting to the gas bill because the estimated meter readings bore no resemblance to the real readings - so when we left the flat after a year we still hadn't paid anything. In that same flat there was a fault with the electricity meter, in that it wasn't charging us anything - but the electrican from London Electricity wouldn't touch it because it was dangerously wired. He told us to inform our landlord to call out an electrician ASAP. Our landlord never did, so we didn't pay for electricity that year either...0
