Diary of a house sale disaster

I thought it was SquatNow who always predicted rioting about everything?
Who's Mrs MTF ?
Rob
Mrs MTF is !!!!!!'s poor old Mum (MumTF), who left her china to her son. I think riots are predicted by most of the MSE Housing Board fringe members. It must be a pretty violent place where they live if the solution to all of life's problems is to riot.
Around my neck of the woods, we'd all sit down and have a 'lively debate' (ala Mrs Merton) over a nice cup of tea. The only crockery that would get smashed would be during a dishwasher malfunction.Mortgage Free in 3 Years (Apr 2007 / Currently / Δ Difference)

Hmm.... all the comments in the Daily Mail in response to that story have been deleted

Initially I felt quite sympathetic towards her, but having read her story properly, I'm less so now. She used £90,000 of her profit from her last sale to finance house improvements including OAK flooring and GRANITE work surfaces in her kitchen
If she was so determined to keep her kids in private education, why didn't she invest that money to pay her fees?
Actually the more I read it, I feel it's got to be some sort of wind up.0 -
i have to agree, using 90k worth to renovate and continue sending kids to private school.
18 year old son shoul dbe paying more housekeeping, why cant she get students like the rest of us, get rid of the gas guzzling car.... which she talks about like her nose is in the air..... some people havent got a bloody clue..... until the proverbial hits the fan and then its everyone elses fault,
i realise that she is a single parent, but she doesnt seem to have rained in her spending since her hubby died, the time to down size would have been then, and then keep the money invested..... sheeshsmile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to....

Sorry but reading all this then finding out she 'only' earns £1500 per month is silly. BMW X3? £90,000 home improvements? Private School? WOW.0

Why assume all of that?
Financial decisions should be taken jointly. Women can't just opt out....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
I started off by having a fair bit of sympathy, after all people who know FA about the economy and money markets are certainly in the majority in GB - this is a failiure of the government IMO, that budgeting/understanding of ecomonics etc is simply NEVER taught ( although there are long overdue moves towards it )
how can you not feel sorry that fellow citizens find themselves in this situ
But then quickly goes on to sayMy credit card debts are growing, the school fees have to be paid for the summer term and I am beginning to feel the cold hand of despair. There's no way I can fund the children's education without releasing equity in the house. I have no way of paying off my debts out of my salary, and I don't have any other savings.
Despite the woman moaning she has no savings, but then wanting to waste what tiny bit there is left on A HOLIDAY!!The children gather round and ask what is wrong. I hug them and say it's all going to be OK, we can move and at last I might have some spare money to buy them new clothes and we can go on holiday.
Although they are at private school they don't get the treats their friends do, such as clothes, activities and holidays, because we can't afford it.
thats right sugar YOU CANT AFFORD IT!! I pull home similar sorts of money to what she does, and I dont have kids to pay out for. Its comfortable for me, BECAUSE I DONT HAVE KIDS and also because I dont buy stuff I dont NEED.
I mean come on!!!! someone needs to learn, if you cant afford it you shouldnt BUY IT :wall::beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
I have a lot in common with this unfortunate woman...I can't afford a £500k house, a BMW or to put three children through private school either.
Seriously, it's not rocket science is it, XX coming in...XXXXX going out. What did she think was going to happen ?. A xDon't believe everything you think.
Blessed are the cracked...for they are the ones who let in the light. A x0 -
She says she's made a drastic decision and downsizing is the only option, but she hasn't thought it through any further than that, has she? She seems to own the house outright, so has no mortgage to pay, but even so - to keep those kids in private education until age 18 is going to cost £130k without allowing for any rises in the fees she states. She's going to have to downsize a hell of a lot more and start looking at houses below the £250k stamp duty mark before she can afford that kind of expenditure.0

You would think people might know this............however you read about these things all the time and it is as if they should have a right to live well behond their means. Sorry but these people have no sympathy whatsoever from me.
I saw on GMTV a few weeks ago about the cost of living and they interviewed a woman and it went kinda like this;
''I cannot believe how much it costs to live in this country - i mean, i cannot have my foreign holiday and have to go caravanning in Kent instead.'' (Cue family exiting a massive holiday home caravan)
Same woman;
''I am struggling to pay for petrol (cue behemoth MPV behind her) to take my family out on a Sunday afternoon to visit aunty Doris - now it just sits on the drive''
Same woman;
''I have to eat leftovers from the night before as food is so expensive'' (Cue more food on the side than Tesco's storage depots)
PUHLEASE. :mad: Some people are blinded by greed and complete ignorance and no wonder this country is so broken.
It is all sounding very similar to the woman featured in this thread - moaning that she cannot afford to clothe her kids (although i think she means via Prada) send them on holiday (on a 5 star cruise every 6 months) but she can afford an X5 and private schooling. All on £1500 a month? Sorry but get a life woman.....0 -
Woman spends far more than she earns and runs out of money - why should she deserve any sympathy?0
