Just had DMC ringing me telling me NOT to go with CCCS.....

Just in the interests of balance, I did an internet search and found this article which I guess puts the DMC's point of view?

I couldn't find anything to suggest that the CCCS is in danger of losing its charitable status, but I did find a couple of comments suggesting that similar organisations in the US are losing charitable status (but I couldn't find much info so I'm not sure), which might explain the confusion.Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043

I wonder how much profit DMC make - They don't seem to have mentioned that to you.
The comparison would be profit made per client. My guess would be that CCCS is minimal and DMC would be quite a lot higher.LBM : March 2008

Oddly enough when I started my DMP with CCCS my main creditor rang my PARENTS (yes, I know!!!) and told them pretty much the same story, that they were fee charging, didn't look after my money correctly, whereas if I paid her twice what I could afford it would all be lovely! It really upset my parents (especially as the lady concerned had one of those nice friendly well-to-do lady voices!) and I wrote them a stinking letter.
Been with CCCS for 4 years. No interest or charges. Nothing more from that collection agency either!PROUD TO BE DEALING WITH MY DEBTS! DFW Nerd 1004

Just had another one!!!
From Financial Services someone who other who put me through to Moneytailor a few weeks ago, so they say.
They said they are giving me a ring as I have asked them to handle my debt for me. News to me.
I said actually you cold called me on my tps landline, and are one of three companies at least who have done so and not at any time have I said I wanted to go ahead.
I told them I am now speaking to the CCCS.
They then said they can put me in touch with someone who can use 'government legislation' to wipe off over half my debts and can be used at the same time as CCCS.
Hmmm I though, go on (I could tell his nose was growing)
So I say, this service is free? Oh yes it is apparently (nose growing longer).
They can put me through to a different department than the Moneytailor.
Why? I ask.
Because Moneytailor have referred you back to us as they can't help you.
Funny, said I, as they rang me yesterday to see if I'd thought about their offer of help.
Silence. Oh I don't now about that.
Yes, said I and I told them I was speaking to the CCCS.
Ah, well let me explain to you who the CCCS are. (You ready for this) They are the CAB. They will manage your debt but for that they actually take 20% of all your payments. So can I put you through to our different department?
Who are they called?
Endersby? They are just a different department in our comapny.
Who?
Blair Endersby. They will take your payents down from about £800 to about £200.
Hmmm, but won't that take longer to pay?
No, because you've halved your debt.
Yes, but you've quartered the payments!and they won't charge me anything for doing this?
I don't know, I am not qualified to answer that question, I'm just trained to check details, addresses etc and pass you through. This service is free.
What the 'passing on'? How kind. (Now I'm getting sarky)
And Blair Endersby can be done at the same time as CCCS?
No it can't.
But you said it could! So said actually CCCS are a charity and they will not be charging me personally anything to help me with my debt.
Well how do you think they make their money?
From holding payments probably, and getting the interest off them (thanks for that suggestion btw) and actually I have seen their accounts and the money they actually make as profit is relatively small as you would expect from a charity..... and I've known people who have een withem over 4 years and not had to pay them a penny (thanks flugella!)
Ah well as you know that about them I'd better say goodbye.... and put the phone down.
I'm thinking of getting something to tape these conversations, honestly his little nose must have a birdie nest on the end by now.
I'm waiting for the next one to call now I am riled lol.0 -
it is an interesting read, although I do think it is a sales pitch! I would like to know if there is some kind of commission, although I dought if it is set up that way? I think we all realise that lenders partly fund the likes of cccs and payplay by making donations and claiming the tax back, after all a pound off your debt is better than nothing at all, if you understand my meaning. one million people paying a £1/wk is better than one million people paying nothing and the lenders having to fund collection.June 2005 = 48K of Debt

Hi All,
Just thought I would add a little post to clarify things.
CCCS are not losing their charity status and we can confirm all our advice if free and confidential.
We are funded by the credit industry and this is something we are open about. I have attached the link to our website for you to have a read in a bit more detail. http://www.cccs.co.uk/about/funding.aspx
If you have any concerns please feel free to contact CCCS_Matthew or Myself, we will be about today and are happy to help.
SarahI am a Debt Counsellor that works for the CCCS and have specific permission from Martin, to post on these boards to try and help those in debt. Read more information on the CCCS and what it does in the Debt Problems: What to do and where to get help article.
CCCS is a registered charity, and there is no charge whatsoever for any of the services we provide to our clients. We take great pride in offering first class help and advice, but we only offer this where we have been able to fully explore and understand your circumstances with you. We want to help you understand these choices and their possible implications but not make them for you.

Thanks for clarifying that Sarah, though it is what we all suspected.
Do you ever get any recourse on the things they say about the CCCS?0 -
Well just had a phonecall from the people who put me through to the DMC who said all that about CCCS.
She was very nice and just wanted to see if the DMC had been able to help and was I going to be using them. When I said no she asked why, ie was it because I wasn't eligible.
I told her the reason was that there are others who will do what the DMC was offering to do for free.
And she said 'Yes, that's true, what fee were they going to charge you?'
I told her they were going to take 17.9% of anything I put towads my debts and she said that that sounded about the going rate, to have a lovely day, goodbye.
Well, no lies, no selling tactics, she was very nice..... now either she isn't considered very good at her job at the DMC or she is currently ringing another DMC now to give me a call with a lower fee.
I'm becoming too cynical about nice people on the phone!0 -
Fingers crossed she's just a nice person! I believe there are a few of them in the debt colleciton business.... ;-)PROUD TO BE DEALING WITH MY DEBTS! DFW Nerd 1004
