How do I detect and delete duplicate files please

My hard drive is getting pretty full.

Part of the reason is because I have so many images on it, lots of which are saved in two or three places.

I know it's dumb but I never was very tidy!

Please can anyone recommend any freeware that finds and allows you to delete duplicates but obviously gives you the option to retain them if necessary.

in a command prompt enter FC + attributes

Use the windows search utility to do I search on your PC for files and folders and use *.* as the file name. It will detect every (unhidden) file on your system, then order it by name, should be a quick way to detect duplicates (well files with the same name).

I use Advanced Duplicate Finder it's not a freeware but works excellent. It finds images, music, zips and other docs, it can compare the content of files and thus find complete duplicated.
