Acer Aspire 3050 Laptop. Quirky problem....

Morning Folks!

I took delivery yesterday of a brand new laptop. Acer Aspire 3050

Ran through the Vista Home Basic initial set-up sequence & all went fine.

On its first run I noticed that the Right click button on the Synaptics mouse pad device was permanently on thus showing as being pressed down.

Updated the drivers. Still happened! Removed them & re-installed the originals. Same again!

Plugged in a usb mouse and I was able to use the lappy with no problem whatsoever, left and right clicked fine ( via the mouse )

Updated everything from Microsoft. Same again.

Changed the mouse properties from Right to Left handed configuration and the LEFT button then did exactly the same thing!!!

Surely, This must be a software or driver problem as if it was a physical fault then the right button would have still done the same after changing it over?

Did the proprietary system backup disks and Installed XP... Perfect!!!!!!!

I have tried all combinations, Googled till 3 am, Usb mouse in / mouse out so prior to trying to get through to Acer support this afternoon I am wondering if anyone may have had the same annoyingly quirky thing happen and if there is a solution.

Cheers in Advance .

It certainly sounds like a driver problem.

You could try uninstalling the touchpad/mouse in 'Device Manager' then restarting your computer, which should automatically reinstall the drivers.

Alternatively download the latest drivers from the Synaptic website.

Get it? Now use it before you lose it.
    or - Try
using it - not losing it. ;)

Is the right mouse button pressed down ? Is it stuck down and that's why its happening? I know you probably already checked but have to make sure every possible scenario ;)

Sorry. I posted in a bit of a rush this morning.

With Vista loaded, the synaptics icon showed a green light on the right side which indicated it was being pressed. When I reformatted and put XP on in the early hours I am able to use the pad/buttons correctly. So, Definitely a driver prob & have tried all combinations to sort it.

Seriously thinking now of leaving the XP on and not doing the Acer restore ;)

One of lifes little unfathomable quirks methinks :p
