Plasma TV and XBox360

I bought my son a 50" Samsung Plasma TV for his bedroom and had it delivered yesterday. He has been playing his xbox360 on it and already it looks like it has a circle burned(t) onto the screen. Before I ring the store tomorrow, I was wondering if I should be asking for a replacement or my money refunded and buy a LCD. I would appreciate some advice, pointing me in the right direction which TV would be the best for him to play XBox 360 and PS3 and also watching TV. Thanks.

If you pause tv or play the same game for a long time where the same image is in the same part of the screen on a Plasma tv then the image will burn in to the screen forever.

If that's what it is I don't think the shop would take it back but if they do then this doesn't happen on LCD's, only on Plasma.

Thanks for that Geewhiz. I didn't think that would happen after only about 15 hours play. Would this be normal ?

Not really. Although are the brightness settings correct? They should be about half although by default they tend to be put on maximum for shop showrooms.

Put it this way current plasma technology has burn times better than that of or equivalent to CRTs. Would you expect permanent phosphor burn of a CRT after only 15 hours of play?

I'd take it back. It certainly should not have suffered burn-in after 15 hours of use.

On another note, do you want to be my dad? I could use a new TV! lol

Just use it as a tv for a while and it will (might) just go. The newer plasma are less suseptable to screen burn staying long term and will fade, I believe. You need to run it with a 50% grey displayed, but not easy to do so just leave it on a lower contrast setting.
They wont take it back its written in the manual somewhere as its not faulty more like a feature...

I imagine it is to do with the default contrast and brightness settings. Try turning them down as the factory settings are often too high.

Still go back for a refund though as 15 hours is not acceptable.

Thanks for all the advice. I am going to ring the store at 9am and ask them what they can do. It is a great looking tv so hopefully there is a solution.
Oh. by the way, I am a mum not a dad, and only have one child thank goodness, but thanks for wanting me to be your mums. :T
  • I get a bit of image retention on my plasma but it goes in no time. Watch too much Jeremy Kyle and the text on the screen can be seen on other stuff but I can put up with that rather than having to put up with an LCD TV. Why the heck would you want/need a 50 inch telly in a bed room is another question
Nothing to see here, move along.

We have quite large bedrooms so the room actually takes a 50" quite comfortably and also the gameplay looks better with the Xbox360 and PS3.
We needed new tv's and thought that these would look better as it's not something you replace on a regular basis (hopefully).
