Thank you all for your comments and support. It's good to know we're not the only ones out there (bad for all those children involved though :( ). I think going to the CAB is a good idea as they should be able to help with all the issues being thrown up. I know it's an obvious suggestion but I hadn't thought of it!

we are concerned for the welfare of the children and would prefer to keep them in the family.

Sorry that I can't provide any advice that you are looking for, but your post really touched me. Good luck! I just wanted to wish you well and to say that 'where there's a will, there's a way.' :) (Or if you are religious, have faith that you will be provided for).

This may well end up being the one thing you do in your life of which you are most proud. "Lucky" children.

After trying for weeks to get an answer from my local council we have now been told that we do not qualify for kinship carers allowance. I am furious with my local council. I have now gone to see my MSP who is taking up my case with the local councial and social work office, not holding my breath for a quick response though!

There were recently a couple of 'bits' on Radio 4 about kinship fostering, and a couple of local councils have been instructed by the court to pay when they didn't think they needed to. If you go to bbc.co.uk/radio 4 and search for kinship fostering payments that might turn up some useful information!
