Hi (first post, so sorry if its been done and I just cant find it)
I'm a mature student, I also have my own company which isn't trading, but I do research work for.
Can anyone advise if I should pue on the IR tax credits form that I work but don't earn money , and will I be elligible for Working Tax Credits? I expect to get a grant when the paperwork is finalised.
Thanks

You need to be earning money to get tax credits.0

OK, how much money do I need to earn and what else does it effect?
I don't want to bust a gut getting some paid work only to find it reduces other benefits pound for pound.0 -

There is a working tax credit calculator on the gov web sitehttp://www.taxcredits.inlandrevenue.gov.uk
I think so long as you are working 16 hours a week - even if you business is running at a loss - you can claim. I think this is the case with self employed - not so sure about LTD co.0 -
The tax credits calculator doesn't take into account student status.
OP, you're probably better off asking on the benefit board. But AFAIK, you need to work 16 hours and either be disabled or have a child to get WTC while you're a student. No longer using this account for new posts from 20130 -
A single person working 30 hours or more can also claim WTC, even whilst they are a student.Gone ... or have I?0
