Removing glue from around the bath

My friend’s bath is sealed with sealing strips and glue rather than silicone. The glue holding them on is smooth in consistency, but only comes off in tiny pieces. We want to remove it. Is there a better way than scraping it off – it’s going to take ages to get every last bit? What about gluing the strips back on with silicone? The reason for removing the strips was that water was leaking around them, but there’s nothing wrong with the strips themselves.
Thanks
