Which is more MSE

I don't think either of my options are very MSE....and I have to try and weigh up which is more MSE and which would make me happier...

I am supposed to be going on holiday with some friends on Sat, and have paid for flights and accomodation etc. I have been feeling really down for the last week and I'm now wondering why I agreed to this particular holiday which isn't REALLY my thing...and I would rather go to to visit my boyfriend (in this country but about 4hour drive away). I hate the thought of losing all the money I have spent if I DON'T go abroad, but at the same time I think that if I DO go, then I will end up spending money which is even more of a waste if I'm not enjoying myself. If I go to see the BF I waste the money I have already spent...which I will be gutted about...and possibly spend the same amount on staying somewhere as I would spend on food etc if I went abroad...but would probably be a bit happier.

Which would you do?

I'd hate to lose all that money - true MSE that I am! And, I know very well what feeling down is like. I was thinking maybe yoou could find a way of not being in their company so much when you get there but it does not seem like much of a solution. Is there no way your BF could get a flight and stay near to you even if not in the same hotel/apartment? I think this would be the best solution all round. Only other way I can think of is to get your GP to issue a private sick note (something more convincing than depression which travel companies have strange attitudes about). I assume you have insurance in which case you would lose the cost of that and maybe some other costs depending hat kind of holiday it is i.e. if the flight and accommodation were booked separately.

Jake's Gran - are you suggesting that a GP would 'invent' some kind of condition to fulfil travel insurance cancellation conditions? I very much doubt it.

You don't really say why you don't want to go aside from the money and 'its not really your thing' yet chose to go in the first place.

I have a bit of a habit of feeling like I don't want to go somewhere when it is a bit different to stuff I normally do (including my own birthday nights out, as I don't go out that often!!!), especially if my b/f can't make it (as I know he will sort things out for me if I'm not having a good time) and if it costs money (I think I feel I have to guarantee it will be 'worth it').

9 times out of ten I am pleased I went, and I try to make the best of the not so good times.

I find the more I decide not to do stuff the more introverted and worried I become so that I am more likely to say no to future stuff.

If this sounds familiar I would give it a go and see your B/f another time.

I knew I would get a response to that bit. No, GPs will not invent illnesses but the unwilling traveller could. It's not ethical I know; just a thought.

So if you don't think its ethical why are you suggesting it?

Thank you everyone for your replies, especially roxalana - that sounds exactly like me! I originally thought I would enjoy it, then thought I might not and I thought why waste more money on something I'm not going to enjoy. In the end I did go because I decided that if I didn't, I would always regret it and wonder what it would have been like. I thought that once we left I would be ok...and I wasn't completely. Once we got there I was a bit more ok..and I had a few up and down moments but overall I enjoyed it and was glad I went.:)

A change of scenery and a bit of a break away from everything is usually good and you will probably find you enjoy yourself when you get there (we have a relation that has to be dragged kicking and screaming on holiday and then when they get there they have a great time but when they get home they do nothing but complain about it ... go figure ;)). A holiday is what YOU make it, if you are not enjoying it then there is only one person who an resolve that.

Go away and enjoy yourself, your boyfriend will be there when you come back and 4 hours is not that far away that you can't visit over the weekend, tell him all about your holiday, have a nice meal and then shag his brains out.
