Hi guys,
I'm planning on going to Egypt in Oct with my boyfriend. This'll be my first time abroad since I was a kiddy! Does anyone have any idea how much spending money I should be looking at taking? I have absolutely NO IDEA!!!

Hi you wont be able to do any diving in Luxor - you will need to book a day trip to Hurghada. Prices have gone up but it is still cheap to eat and drink in Luxor. I last went Nov / Dec last year. You can easily get a meal for a fiver. Hotels will be more expensive than restaurants. Ave beer in hotel will be anything from 2.50 to £3. Elsewhere you will get a bott of Sakara for as little as 70p. Bottles of water and cans of coke in the small supermarkets will be about 20p. Some hotels will charge around £1.20. International spirits are dear. Expect to pay around 4.50/£5 a shot in hotels plus extra for the can of coke. Alot of restaurants dont serve alcohol and some will let you bring your own so it makes an even cheaper night out. International bottles of spirits are dear to buy there so I always buy a couple of botts at the airport. You can get the ferry across to the East bank for 20p and there are taxis there that will take you to Valley of the Kings. The balloon trip is a must and you can book it for as little as £30 each. Not to be missed. We used Sinbads. Taxis are cheap but agree the price 1st. Dont buy bottled water of ciggies from the street sellers. dont drink tap water as it is highly chlorinated and will upset your stomache. I always use anti bac handwash- the money is filthy. A brollie will come in handy when visiting the sites as it gets very hot. I also take a flyswat and a back pack with insulated water carriers.
Watch the caleche drivers and make sure you agree a price and ask where they will take you for that price and ensure the price is for everyone and not each. Check the condtion of the carriage and the horse 1st and make sure both are in good condition. Avoid the ones that constantly whip their horses!
A felluca ride on the Nile at sunset is lovely and this only costs about £2 each. A day Nile Cruise to Dendera is a lovely day out and can be booked at the Thomas Cook shop at the Old Winter Palace for about £22 each which is a full day including a really nice 2 course buffet but excludes drink. Thereis a man on board who videos the trip if you want to buy it and also another man comes on deck and sells stuff. I bought some lovely scarves for Xmas pressies for a couple of £ each.
I have been to Luxor a few times in October and it is a very nice time to visit. It is still very hot though.
