rogerramjet wrote:Belkin modem router comes with a straight cable...basically enthernet card into computer, cable from ethernet card to modem router and then open an internet browser window and in the address type 192.168.2.2 which is the basic belkin address, this will then allow access to the modem router for it to be set up.
One thing to remember is to change your connection setting to only use dial up if a network connection is not available (only necessary if you've a modem in the computer which you used before the modem router option)
The modem/router, wireless adaptor and ethernet cable which I have are all Belkin, so in theory, they should all work together, but when is life ever so simple???
So now still tossing and turning between card or usb to ethernet adaptor. Got plenty of spare slots so installing won't be a problem.
Re connection settings, am currently using broadband with BT voyager external modem and have that set on never dial a connection, so expect that it will be the same when I finally get myself together and install network.0 -
NIC, 4 quid inc. delivery here on Ebay.
Don't let the fact it's a pci internal card put you off. It's easier than fitting a 13 amp plug.

Thanks TOG for that one, appreciate it. Well have decided, going to take the bull by the horns and go for the card, it will be neater, and cheaper.0 -
When you think about it - thats a really stupid thing to do. Because if they did allow it then people reading this thread would probably have followed the link and perhaps bought the product; but as a result of them not allowing deep-linking I came along and recommended a competitor (which I wouldn't have done if the link had worked).rogerramjet wrote:appears ebuyer have removed the ability to direct link to a product....should have shown a list of ethernet cards starting from £2.99.0 -

Basically if you follow the info which come with the modem router you can't go wrong.
All you need are the user name and password settings which you would have used to set up the BT Voyager modem.
I would suggest that you set some security on the wireless network and also change the login password of the modem router.
There is a recent thread on how this is done within this sub forum somewhere about setting security.Welcome, rogerramjet.

I linked direct to a product on Ebuyer on post #2 of this thread.

Thanks, have been reading up on the security side of things so know that will have to do something extra there, also all computers here have AV, firewall, spywareblaster, spybot, ad-aware. Have ordered the card now, so just awaiting that, then no doubt I'll be back asking for help when I can't get the thing configured!0 -
NIC's are dirt cheap these days. Even Maplin stores sell 100Mbs ones for £5. Unless you're after an expensive model it's not worth buying them mail order due to the shipping costs.Hug provider for depression thread :grouphug:

Well, finally got ethernet (LAN card) today, and installed it with no bother. So thanks to all for suggestions and help. May well be asking for help tomorrow as am going to attempt to install modem router - too dark and too tired to attempt it for the moment!
Thanks again all.0
