How much spending money for a week to Portugal?

I'm off to Portugal at the end of August. I'm going for one week. How much spending money do you think i'd need for me and 3 kids ages 15, 14 and 11.
I will need to pay my train/tube fare from London to Gatwick, i'm going by train to Victoria and then a coach to Gatwick. I need my half share of the taxi to our apartment which is an hours drive approx from Lisbon Airport. I'm going half with my sister for the taxi. I would also need half taxi fare to the airport on way home and train/coach fare etc on way home.
With all the fare and spending money i'm stuck on how much to take because I don't want to spend too much and don't want too less
The flights and Apartment are all paid for.
Would £500 cover the whole lot do you think?

Theres a lot of variables here Kimberley, is the money to cover EVERYTHING?
eg One trip to a water park could blow a fair amount.
Are you eating out three meals a day?
Taxi fares will eat into this budget a fair amount.
My younger boys are the same age and like money for drinks through the day which all add up.
Best to see what your sis plans on spending on holiday, some people are eat in all the time, others like to be out and about a lot which costs a fortune.
Can you take a card with you with some extra cash in case its needed?
Then you can draw out a bit at a time or just use it for emergencies.
Nationwide are supposed to be good for overseas transactions.
Hope you have a fab time.0 -

What does your 'spends' cover?
Any meals? Days out? Ices? Will the children have any of there own money and do they have to pay for anything out of it?
I started giving mine a daily allowance, such as £1 per day for a drink/crisps/icecream when we were round the pool and they spent it as they wanted to.
Any days out planned? Have you got rough costs to those.
I work on £2/3 pp per lunch, £10 soft drinks per meal £10/15 pp per evening meal, my alcohol is obviously extra :rotfl:
It also depends a lot of what facilities you have at the apartment.

Wow, that's a big question - have you tried to see if there is a forum for the resort that you are going to on Trip Advisor?? If there is one you could ask on there how much restaurants etc. cost in the area. I have been to The Algarve and the Porto coast but never to Lisbon so I cant comment on the costs in that area. the only think I know is that a taxi in the Algarve for a 1 hour journey is approx. 80/100 Euros.0

Crikey, I was hoping of around £80 per day at least :eek:0 -
Personally I would spend about £700 but I think £600 would be fine if you dont spend too elaborately0

Kimberly,
you don't want to find yourself short.
The fares all round I guess might be the best part of £150.
Evening meal for 4 with drinks etc say 80 euros /night 560 euros, about £420. Eating -in may be your thing but shiopping and going out swallows up a fair amount.
lunches 40 euros for 4 x 7 =£280 euros £220
so already 150+560+220==£930
other ice creams etc and kids spending as know tomorrow and it adds up
These are only wild !!!! guesses tho, you may spend less, but the kids may spend more
Sorry for shocking you
any way, have a good one . I am off to Monte Gordo in 10 days time, for 16 days. I have allowed £1600-£1800, any thing I bring home is a bonus.Mortgage free

The good news is that this is a comparatively cheap resort in relationship to AlgarveSomething Really Interesting0 -
You have time to apply for a nationwide account before you go, giving you access to free cash withdrawals while you are there, that way you can take enough cash for incidentals on arrival and your taxi, and take out the rest as and when you want.
You can check if there is a cash machine near your resort on https://www.visa.com0
