Can anyone recommend free antivirus software.

Hi

I'm looking for a totally free antivirus - i.e. no free trials and then start being charged.

Can anyone recommend?

Many thanks

  • Does your ISP not offer free protection?

I am with VirginMedia and they offer their PCGuard free to Broadband customers.

But superjaggybunnet, aren't you having problems with it?

    Try Avast.

But also try searching the forum, as this gets asked almost every day.

New version of AVG Free is awful in my experience, v7.5 is much faster and less of a resource hog than v8. Plenty of threads discussing it in this forum.

Another vote for Avast - always done well for me :)

  • I treid Avast and Avira recently after having problems with new AVG.

Avira kept failing to connect to its update server and Avast made my PC really unstable, seemed to hog a lot of memory even after changing a lot of the scan options.

I've now gone back to AVG but disabled the search shield and it seems a bit better.

I guess try any of these and see which one works best for you (they are all free)

Hi, I've got McFee on my PC that comes with the broadband but apparantly you only get it on one product, so I can't use it on my laptop.

    Thanks though.

No, but I know if I had a problem with something which I couldn't find a solution for I'd be cursing it and not recommending it even if it was only me that had the problem ;)

Thanks downloading now. I did try searching the forum, must have done something wrong because it didn't bring me back anything.
