Pride comes before the 'Fall'

Im not laughing at other peoples misfortune. Im laughing at those who laughed at MINE and OTHERS misfotune.. people who laughed at you for not getting a houser sooner.
Call it karma call it justice.... call it what you want.. I know people who just bouht and feel sorry for them. I dont feel sorry for the guys with big BTL empires with little to no equity in each property.0 -
Before the crash you get called a doom monger and a loser. After the crash you are called a gloater and accused of schadenfreude. So whichever way you look at it you can't win - unfortunately this is just the price you pay for being able to think for yourself as opposed to going along with the mob.
But at the end of the day money talks, and bulls**t walks so we know who won in the end.0 -

He wasn't called a gloater he admitted he was gloating

Well after so many years I suppose frustration just gets the better of people. I don't support it though, like I said, it's the price you pay for being a contrarian.0

El Pirate, there's a big difference here.
My position isn't so much different than Neas IIRC. We both want whats best for us, understandably, even rightly. But wanting whats right for us, feeling sadly placed timing wise and even unfairly treated by the system and the people who have benefitted from it is very, very different from GLOATING that people are now suffering.
I don't expect people who were five years older or whatever, to have made provision for me in the unfairness, nor do I expect to do that for them (other than thriough taxation etc) but neither do I have to kick them as they are down.
I have to say they, if I were so inclined to kick I would wait til I were actually in the position I wanted to be in before doing so! Nothing has really changed in the status of those of us waiting to buy and we might have ages and ages yet before we do/should buy. so, If I do decide to gloat it will be when I own the front door I'm gloating behind.0 -

Agree, and I think if you'd posted this originally you wouldn't have got all the flack you've been getting. Laughing at those who've gloated at you - fine. Laughing at those who are in negative equity and about to be made homeless - obviously not fine. But as you've explained, it was the former you meant, not the latter! Just watch your phrasing. Don't bother getting in a fight over car details etc - not worth it.
I think lots of people would agree with your (revised) post, just are probably afraid to, in case they get a roasting too. So don't be downhearted about the attacks you received: I think your view (as represented in this quote) is pretty widespread among priced out FTB's, but would have benefitted from better phrasing initially.

I still don`t get it. Why would I get a buzz because my house has gone up to a daft amount of money. OK, I did want to move to Spain and if the Spanish market hadn`t gone crazy then I guess that might have been a buzz. As it happens I would have to pay a lot of cash for a very overpriced Spanish place.
I don`t do mewing so no advantage there. However I do have to put up with the fact that the youngsters in our family are fretting because they have no way if moving out of home. So frankly I would have liked house prices to be the same as say 10 years ago and not have had to put up with this hpi bo--ox!0 -
Or should it be pride comes before the crash?
Does anyone else get a warm feeling every month and feel a little glee at certain users of this forum that their 'perceived' wealth is diminishing every month. That their get rich quick scheme is put into reverse gear?
Ahhh
Sorry neas but this original post screams jealousy to me. I dont know you but i would not wish suffering on any other human being regardless of their wealth.
What i DO get a warm fuzzy feeling is the massive housing crash that is more or less in full swing. Only yesterday i was looking at some stunning houses that in a year or so i will be able to afford and 8 months ago were literally for those on 100k per annum. THAT gives me that feeling you talk about and it hurts no-one.0 -

Non necesse est.
We didn't buy a house from late 2005 onwards, although we could easily have done so. We took a long, careful look at prices, and decided not to bet on it....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

I remember 6-7 months back BTL Bois would trounce anyone talking about a crash.. but now we are in full swing and it doesn't look like its going to stop anytime soon. I can ignore the biased and illogical reasons why houses will recover short term... as I have one thing they dont.... evidence.
So I dedicate this to you Pickles and Mr Broderick... You provide me with a warm fussy feeling every month..
Ahhh
Yep - you are right. The House Price Crash is here and all the signals point to an almighty crash like we never seen before and it will also trigger something similar to the great depression in the '30's. The recession will affect everybody, including the imbeciles on this forum who sing the praises of the house price crash and believe that £10k in the bank saved over 5 years of hard toil makes them immune to it. So you can wipe that smirk of your face now. You will suffer, just like everyone else.0
