MOT problems today

I have just got back from the garage where I have been waiting since 8.30 for them to complete an MOT on my car. Apparently the main database went down and legally they cannot continue with the MOT and issue a certificate until it is up and running again. They said this is nationwide so anyone expecting an MOT today might struggle hence the warning. This is apparently the third occasion this year when this has happened.

I have to go back another day and start again as removing my car from the premises means they can't just restart the old MOT check.

Obviously not the garage's fault and they stand to lose out as they have a dozen cars booked in today and are having to cancel the lot. It is frustrating though as my MOT expires soon and I don't know when I can next guarantee a morning off work..

sorry about your problems and they were right about it being nationwide, and pretty much all day.

They can still MOT though, its just more work for the garage which is probably why they said they couldn't do it. The garage can phone Vosa for emergency MOT "approval" and then they just do it the old fashioned way - handwritten like they used to be a couple of years ago. They then handwrite the MOT certificate when the car passes and have 7 (I think) days to input the details into the computer when its working again.

Its pretty much the equivalent of doing an MOT and a half.

I know this because my husband and I have just opened an MOT garage.

    Arghhh

Just booked in again today and the same thing has happened and my car can't be done.

It is tentatively booked in for tomorrow again but I am now technically out of date for my MOT as my car has reached its third birthday.

Blast and double blast, I suppose that means I can't drive it until tomorrow when I will be on my way to a pre booked MOT?
