Good morning Techies,
I would like to start a website (?) or a blog for my 9 year old grandson. I'm unsure which one I need.
I would like to store his many photo's and list his hobbies and his sporting activity. If he has a website, can he restrict who visits it? ie, could he only allow family and friends to view?
I have opened an Googlemail account for him and wondered if the blog on Google would suit him? I was informed only today of a Free web site and wondered if that would be better. Would this include free hosting?
Any advice welcomed, as I know nil about websites or blogs!!

Why not creat a website using googlepages which will be available as he already has a googlemail address.
You will not be able to stop anyone anywhere accessing it though but if only he knows about it and only gives the address to family, nobody else will probably ever find it.
I have set up a googlepages website. PM me for the address if you want to see what it looks like to give you an idea of the capabilities.
It is free and has templates all set up for you to complete so it is pretty easy.

Thank you so much for the advice! I will PM you for further info, if that's OK?

Have you thought about getting him on facebook?
I know it gets a bad write up in the press sometimes, but he could put all his photos up on there (really easily...can share them with people not on facebook, too), write little notes and stuff, list his hobbies, interests etc0 -

Thanks for the suggestion. I did think, brieftly, about Facebook but was worried about anyone being able to access his pages/photos? Can he/I restrict who views his pages etc? I worry about him seeing some of the things that are on Facebook.0 -
You can restrict who's allowed to access content he puts up...Not so easy to stop him looking at other stuff on there, though....although I've never seen anything sinister on facebook, certainly no moreso than youtube, google or anywhere else online...0

Have you had a look at my website?
What do you think?0 -

The only way to limit access is to have a username and password - however you're running into some costs then as you need SQL on your host package £10 a month and software (varies but maybe £100).0 -
