Internet not working query

Hi

On Tuesday evening i ran CCleaner on desktop and did a full AVG and another software scan (cant recall the name but is one recommended on this site) for bugs on my pc in safe mode.

PC was working okay on broadband (hard wired) to modem. Was working okay all day wednesday. But last night it would not work and connect to internet. Modem lights were all on as normal, and my laptop works on the wireless connections as normal.

I have checked through all passwords etc, and cant see any changes why internet will not work. I tried logging from desktop to modem, but it will not connect to model. (my laptop connect to modem admin mode settings okay).

any advice welcome, on what to do?

Hi I had more or less the same, rock solid for yrs (or a long time) then just stopped, nothing. Strange, I think I had msn messenger made a connection but all my other networked pc's stopped.
In my router settings I cleared down the single port forwarding values and let it reset the entries, that worked for me, but dont know why yet!

Yesterday, my friend Alan rang so I went round and his laptops could connect, see each other but not print wirelessly to the desktop pc, neither could the desktop see the laptops, but did connect to the internet. Nothing I did worked. In the end I just reseated the patch lead from the router to desktop and it worked again.

So I would power off everything and re-seat all cables and try that.

If you have Zonealarm check this link for solution! I installed a windows update last night and modem connection died - fixed it today though

(Note - i had to uninstall the KB951748 update not from control panel but from crapcleaner menu of applications. This file was not listed in Add/remove programs list)
