Time Scale on direct debit indemnity

I have had to complete a direct debit indemnity after Eon took over £2000 after they forgot to cancel a scheduled payment, it has now been 48 hours and the Halifax have not refunded the money. They stated yesterday that because i had not completed the paperwork in my home branch that it had gone to one of their business centres and placed in a clearing account, is this correct and what time scale should i be looking at to get the money back?

Irrsepective of the Direct Debit indemnity, which applies to the bank, you are entitled to a FULL and IMMEDIATE refund of any payments taken incorrectly under the terms of the direct debit guarantee. I would speak to your bank and point this out to them, they have to have a copy of the guarantee available to give to you.

Yet another example of banks trying to get out of their responsibilities...

We used to aim for same day when I worked at Abbey. After 4pm that would be a struggle but would be done the next working day.

This was done in the call centre over the phone, no paperwork required by the customer and certainly not a trip to the branch to talk to a salesperson.

Under the Direct Debit Guarantee Scheme you are entitled to a full and immediate refund (within 24 hours) by your bank. The Indemnity scheme is what the bank use internally to get their money back.

Sounds like Halifax are being naughty. You need to get back on to them and ask for a full and immediate refund under the Direct Debit Guaranteee Scheme. You don't have to complete any paperwork - you can make a verbal claim via the telephone. Insist on talking to the person who knows about the Direct Debit Guarantee scheme and don't be fobbed off with the Indemnity scheme or any delay.
