Super cheap international calls- 700+ mins £5 to South Africa

Just thought I'd let you guys know, I got an international calling card a while ago that gives me about 700 minutes calling South Africa. I use the 0845 number, but there's local ones for london, glasgow, birmingham and manchester. The card is called "Uni Tel", and I got it from the newsagent inside Liverpool Central Station.

Their website is https://www.lycatel.com - it looks like they sell even better ones! One of them is 1200 mins to South Africa.

Looks quite cheap for other destinations as well - 1000 mins to the US, 700 mins to Australia...

Anyway, it seems to be the cheapest one I've ever used(I call from a mobile). I used it earlier and the line was really clear.

Let me know if I'm missing something :)

Okay, I just read the say no to 0870 article - maybe it's not such a good deal depending on where you're calling from, but I used it earlier from my PAYG mobile, and it only cost ~10p a minute. Definitely the best option for me:)

yes, check the callchecker on here, you can call south africa using a call through number number at no cost. Well when I say no cost I mean no need to buy a phonecard, you just pay the cost that you are currently paying to call the 0845 access number. Since they make enough money to place your call to South Africa by sharing the call revenue.

I don't see anything like that on the callchecker. The cheapest one says 2p/min.

Also, when I usea call-through number with my mobile, I get charged a LOT.

if it's O2 payg, once the inclusive minutes are used up, try to make calls to 0844 numbers at weekends for 2p/minute

surely you can make most of your calls from landline or callbox via 0800 number for from around 3p/min?
  • On top of the card you do have to pay for the calls to the 01/02 & 0845 access numbers.even if they come out of your inclusive minutes(The inclusive minutes cost you something normally).Eg 02 Max cost £75 a month and you get a 1000 minutes,so the true cost of each call in this example is 7.5p a min.

So to suggest you get 700 minutes to South Africa for a deep sea diver (£5) is inaccurate.Even from a landline their would be some sort of cost to call the access numbers, particularly at peak rate.
