Freesat is nothing to do with Sky, full stop and Sky version has no HD channels.

Sky saw this coming and introduced a free service (apart from the £20 for the card) and pretended to be "Freesat" and have since had to change their name to FreesatfromSky ,

Channel 4 can get out of their tie into Sky card service in November so expect fur to fly.

You can get Freesat using a Sky dish but have to buy another box. It was introduced to give a free service to those who cannot get Freeview.

No channel 5 yet but expected soon, many more will be added later this year including Ch4 HD

Right, that sorts it then. I have freeview tv's so the little I watch on 4 I can access that way, but once I find a non 0870 for sky, I'll ring and cancel. :D

A little bit off topic, but, does anyone know if you can use the new Freesat (not sky) service in France. Thanks.

    Maximo,

I think it will depend upon the size of your dish in France. Go on the french forums to find out.

Just buy a Freesat HD receiver from £120-00 & keep youy money in YOUR, & not SKY's back pocket. There are 3 HD channels to start with & more will be added for NOTHING, unlike Sky's HD that will never be free.

I recently bought passion HD receiver from maplins but only get BBC and LX which is the third one?
    Thanks !

I have SKY HD in my lounge with the full mix package, no movies or sport for £21 per month. I also have freesat from Sky in the main bedroom upstairs (£20 one off fee). There are heaps of channels you won't get on freesat that you do on Sky's sub. Check what you'll loose before doing it.

Where does the £20 one off fee come from though?
When we cancelled on monday our subs stopped but we still get the freeview channels with our same card. Never did they ask us for £20.
Also 20vt-rs you could get a tv link from ebay (we paid £5 posted) you can have your subs box downstairs, upstairs, although you'll have to watch whats on downstairs, you're able to control from upstairs. We did it mainly for when we go to bed so no ones downstairs anyway! Then you could sell your old box on ebay yourself. :)

New number for Sky Customer Services: 0844 2415161

I just looked at freesat and there is no Dave or UK Gold, that is all hubby watches so not sure what to do now. I did think about getting the freesat card instead though.

When I called about cancelling I was told once by some lady that there was a £20 charge but more recently I have been told it was free to change - you can always change back if you do not like it. Maybe the free charge is a new thing.

Hopefully someone can assist with my query.
I am outside my minimum term with sky and have sky+ multiroom ( 1 additional box).
If i want to drop down to Freesat i have to cancel my existing subscription.

    Everything clear so far. But.......

I want to keep sky+, so i'll have to pay sky £10 a month for using this service.... but is that per box?

It seems to me that the OP is stating it was £10 a month total, for both boxes??

    Cheers
