Sky Free Sat

Don't know how many of you know about this or if it has been posted before but we have just cancelled our Sky to try to cut back a bit and discovered that you can get Free Sat (200 channels on freeview which is more or less equivalent to Sky's basic package at £18 per month) for a one off fee of £20 if you still have the sky box and dish, if you had multiroom aswell like we did, you can still have this for free and if you had Sky + and already had an existing sky + contract you can have this for £10 per month
So what we were paying £31 per month for (basic package Sky + and multiroom) we can now get for just £10!!!, when I asked the guy why they didn't offer us free sat when we cancelled (different phone number to order free sat from cancelling sky) he said it was because we didn't ask and obviously it is in their interests to keep us on the normal subscription.
Have a look at sky's website and it shows you the offers for free sat, currently £75 one off fee to receive 200 channels and 4 months of the full package on trial free (we couldn't get this though as we are current customers, but because we already have a dish and box, that's why we have to just pay the one off fee of £20)
the phone number to call is also on the website

For anyone hunting, there's no information on the main site - you need to go to http://www.freesatfromsky.co.uk/

Just buy a Freesat HD receiver from £120-00 & keep youy money in YOUR, & not SKY's back pocket. There are 3 HD channels to start with & more will be added for NOTHING, unlike Sky's HD that will never be free.Nice to save.0

please please don't all stone me at once. I just am a bit confused. When I cancelled Sky a year ago before I went back with them to get a free sky plus box I went 3 months without sky. I still used the sky box and I got all these channels for nothing. like - free to air channels. so why do you need to pay £10 a month for free to air channels?0

Presume this is why.0 -
Because, I think, they're paying for sky + which you dont carry on getting when you revert to freesat.please please don't all stone me at once. I just am a bit confused. We're currently getting freesat cos we cancelled on monday and personally their 200 odd free channels are pants! We cant get the 2 music channels that freeview get and we cant get virgin1 or dave either. And the channels that are left are rubbish. So we've now started again in my name under refering a friend to get sky+ for £30, but back to paying £21/22 a month again now. But I love my music channels, otherwise no housework would get done

You've all misunderstood me
Right, as we have just cancelled our Sky subscription which was £31 a month for the basic package, Sky + and multiroom, my dad mentioned about free sat, we were just going to get a new aerial so we could get freeview through our TV but this is going to cost us £60 to do.
We phoned up Sky about the freesat which is a different number to their normal Sky subs line.
What they said was because we have the dish and Sky box already (as we have just cancelled) free sat, including some HD channels, if we want it we can have it for a one off fee of £20 (which is less than the £60 it will cost us to get a digital aerial and would only get about 80 channels through normal freeview), this would be for a new card for our Sky + box, we would still get the multiroom as that card is relatively new and we wouldn't have to pay anything for that, so that is it, no more monthly subscription!
The £10 a month would only be if we wanted to carry on getting Sky+, we wouldn't have to get that if we didn't want to, you don't have to pay this for the free to air channels0 -
but why pay the £20 ? When you cancel Sky you will still get the free channels through your box for nothing . The multi-room will still work aswell. I can't see why you are having to pay them £20.

Presumably, because otherwise your viewing card will be cancelled as it was part of the original package. £20 is the charge made to a Freesat customer for a replacement viewing card.

No viewing card surely equals no reception of anything FTA or otherwise.0 -
Is there a link to anywhere to show me what channels are available on freesat? I am seriously contemplating getting rid of sky (have multi-room but not sky+) but my kids are moaning they won't get the channels they like. (At the end of the day, if I can't afford it, sky will go regardless of their likes tho
)
Do you get more channels than I can obtain via my freeview tv? That seems to be very limited tbh.0 -
I dont understand why you're having to pay £20 either? I cancelled my Sky subscription last year and continued to receive the free channels. Some that are available on freeview are not available on Sky e.g. the 2 music ones, Dave and Virgin. E4, C4, More 4 stopped being encrypted May this year.
So long as you have the blue series 2 sky card you shouldnt be paying anything. Only thing I can think of is you have an old card?
