Hi
Im trying to find a sage green exterior gloss paint to paint my wooden garage doors with. Ive chosen this colour as I think it gives my home a bit more of a cottagy feel.
But apart from paying to have it mixed especially at nearly £14 a litre (B&Q)GULP!!! I cannot find this colour anywhere. Does anyone know where or how I can get it cheaper?? cos I need quite a lot.
many Thanks

The B&Q website claims they do it in their one coat gloss range.

Crown Have a look at Subtle Green Non Drip Gloss It's on page 2 of the pdf file.
Sorry about the previous post. I assumed wrongly that the list of paints under the colour sample were the paints that colour was available in. Silly me.

Dulux will do it in their weathershield exterior gloss.
Its pricey though and will have to be made up.
Try going to your nearest http://www.dulux.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/PracticalitiesFindAStockistView?storeId=10752&catalogId=10051&langId=-1
It doesn't say it comes w/s exterior gloss on there site, but if you ask them they will mix it up for you in w/s, i've never had a problem with them.
Personaly i would use normal gloss as the doors are gonna get weathered anyway and everybodys geographical postion in the UK is not the same to guarantee the 15yr they promise, which is a loophole they could use if you complain.
I've used it a few times if a customer has asked for it but at the end of the day if that's what you want......they'll mix it for you no probs.
Sorry that link is only for B&Q and the like, can't seem to find the DDC

Are you sure it is 14 pound at litre at B&Q? I have bought exterior gloss paint recently and had it colour mixed for about 19 pound for 2.5 litres. This has been enough to paint inside and out four exterior doors.
I bought some interior gloss on Saturday from the same service and paid 19.98 for 2.5 litres so it would seem that this is more likely to be the price.
Edited to add. The gloss goes a long way too so you may need less than you think. It is quite runny for a gloss and you only need a little for decent coverage.0 -
Going for 'cheap' with outdoor paints may be false economy - but that doesn't mean expensive is a safe bet, either!
The very best outdor paint I have come across is Sikkens, who do various colour tones. I believe Brewers are stocking Sikkens, or can order it for you.
Sikkens won't be the cheapest, but it is a fantastic and extremely durable paint.0 -
Farrow & Ball will almost certainly have the colour you want. National Trust properties tend to use only F&B paint as they specialise in traditional colours.
Not cheap - but I agree with innovate. You don't want cheap paint especially for the exterior. F&B looks to be about £12 for 750 mlWarning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -
huge thanks to all for the info...will go and investigate all of these
thanks again

I hadn't ever heard of Farrow and Ball until the other day, when a Homebase employee recommended it to me. I was looking for INTERIOR paint at the time - - - and almost collapsed from a heart attack when I saw the price. However, the F&B paint was the only one in Homebase that matched my requirements. So I splashed out £29.99 for 2.5 litres - and so far I am absolutely delighted because I needed an amazingly small amount to achieve really good coverage, and the paint is also amazingly easy to work with. It's good-bye Dulux for me, definitely! Of course, what I don't know yet, having only just painted doors / skirting boards etc is how long the good looks of the paint last. Going by F&B's bumpf, however, it should be years and years before I need to paint again, and so far I do trust them. I am also really pleased that the Homebase girl pointed me at the F&B paint - despite the steep price for the tin of paint, it actually is significantly cheaper than Dulux because the same amount of paint goes a great deal further than 2.5 litres of Dulux!
I have painted [two coats, on top of Dulux-undercoat which I had already put on] 4 doors, picture rails and skirting boards in 4 quite sizeable rooms and I still have some 80% left in my 2.5 litre tin! The results are excellent (and I probably could have got away with just one coat everywhere, though didn't want to cut any corners because after this round of re-decorating, I am not planning on touching a paint brush in the house for the next ten years!!). BTW, my experience is with the F&B water-based Egshell (water-based = doesn't stink out the house, is environmentally friendly, and doesn't yellow anything like oil-based paint).
Sorry to report about my 'indoor' experience when the question was about 'outdoors' but since Debt_Free_Chick mentioned F&B, I thought it worth. If their exterior paint is anything like their interior one - and it seems to be, given the National Trust 'endorsement' - I'd say it is definitely value for money!
Having said all this, my exterior choice remains Sikkens, mainly because one 'refresher' coat every couple of years (or every year, now that I am a pensioner ;-)) keeps my painted outdoor surfaces in great shape.0
