Unwanted changes to my Amex Card Account

I have had an Amex card for some time, but I have only ever used it for taking advantage of those low rate "life of balance" offers. I recently received a letter from Amex telling me that my access to cash from an ATM had been stopped ( although I have never used it), and my credit limit was being reduced to just above my outstanding debt. Amex had the gall to state that my business was appreciated and that they hoped I was not being inconvenienced by their action! As if rendering my card unusable was somehow to my benefit! Can anyone shed any light on the logic behind Amex's action? Is this a clumsy way of saying that I should take my business elsewhere? If that is so, they will lose the interest I am paying them each month, so why would that be to their benefit?

I dunno but my APR has just been increased. Dunno if this is across the board or just me. (APR doesn't apply to me as I pay off in full each month)Kavanne

I shouldn't be worried about it. If they write offering another offer you wish to take up, you can ask them for a credit limit increase at the time.
It is better for card companies to consider credit limit increases when people actually need them, rather than to leave large limits outstanding. People's circumstances could change and they wouldn't notify the lender. But when you ask for the increase, they can re-confirm your details.0
