Central Locking problem Advice.

I have an S reg seat ibiza, the central locking on the drivers door will not work. I can still get into the car by using the passenger door to unlock/lock the car.

Does anyone have any idea of how much this will cost to replace or repair? or any tips on how i may beable to get it working!!

I will be getting a new car next year so don't want to spend to much repairing it. have done afew internet searches but can't find any useful information. I can always use the other door for a year if to expensive.

Thanks!!!!! :o:o:o:o:o

Definitly not the solenoid as it woudlnt work at all (even from the passenger side) if it was that. Chances are it is wiring which triggers the locks. I knwo the Ibiza has a wire in the door which goes high (+12v) when the key is turned in the door and this triggers the locks all around the car. Otherwise, the turn of the key may not be making the correct contact to send the voltage high to trigger the locks.

Your options are to get a car electrician to take a look (possibly pricey) or buy one of those DIY remote central locking kits off ebay for about £20 and fit it to the passenger door.

probably the linkage between the drivers door lock and the solenoid. remove the door car and have a look. you might find a metal rod dangling around or sitting in the bottom of the door.
    ...work permit granted!
  • Thanks for advice, don't think i'm capable of removing car door! abit to much for me.

I've had a look at those fit yourself kits from ebay and it says that a capable DIYer should beable to fit, but i'm not sure i'm capable i've never even wired a plug!! So think it may be to complicated for me. are they very simple and straight forward?

i think i may have to go to a garage, and get a quote. thanks for advice.
