Can someone explain to me how the Sun £9.50 holidays work?

The thread title says it all really. How many times a year does the promotion run and are there breaks available during school holidays?

Hi - take a look at the following:
The sun £9.50 holidays are back
Sun Newspaper £9.50 holidays loophole.
Sun £9.50 holidays - Any Priority booking forms? (MERGED)

I think I'm looking for specifics here

I'm not looking to go on a Sun Holiday at the moment but was really hoping that there is a promotion at the beginning of the year (for Spring dates) and during the Spring (for Summer dates). Is that what usually happens? I understand how the token collecting/additional costs side of things works, I'm really more interested in the available dates and whether during the Spring/Summer there is much (if any) availability during the school holidays. Thanks to everyone who posts comps, I love winning prizes big and small

I think last autumn, the october half term was included (but depends where you are and the timetable I guess) but I have never seen the 6 week summer holidays covered. They manage to sell most of their accomodation at full rate in the summer hols, and any left over are sold as "last minute deals" through their own websites. Well that is what has always happened with haven and pontins anyway, not sure about the independents.
The sun holidays help the sites fill vans that would otherwise remain empty, as it is not peak season.
I have just got back from a sun holiday on monday which was 3 nights 4-7th July, I am pretty sure that was about the latest weekend I could have had (the mon-fri was maybe available but I didn't want the kids to miss school)
The new form I just got, they start on 4th september, so miss out summer hols completely.
They are good for those who have schools that are OK with kids being taken out of school, and for those with pre-school kids, otherwise for most families only the weekends would be any good (and my kids had to miss monday mornings school for us to travel home, but that's a lot better than missing 5 days worth)
Does that help?0 -
Yes, thank you.
My kid's schools are really funny about people taking their children on holiday during term time and I don't like to do it.
I'm guessing that any decent places during school holidays would be taken up by people with priority booking anyway? Thanks to everyone who posts comps, I love winning prizes big and small

As sazzycee said, the offer doesn't cover July / August (or hasn't ever to the best of my knowledge); it does cover March through to June (I think it usually misses Easter), and September through to Novemebr, and looking at the current booking form, dates are Sept 8, 15, 22, 29; Oct 6, 13, 20, 27; Nov 3, 10, 17, 24. Pattern usually stays the same throughout the year.
I booked for first weekend in September back in about January/February time; we had a priority booking form come through last week but for the same period we've already booked for. So we're doing it again in late October/ November!!
Brilliant way of killing a few days at minimum expense on sites that kids will love.

We got Mon-Fri in the "Easter" two week holidays this year and last year we got a weekend in half term. In January look out for the Sun holiday offer as that will include Easter. We had fab weather, a bit cold at night but lovely and sunny all week.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0

So nothing at all in July or August then? I would be prepared to go during school holidays any time of the year. A bit of cold weather wouldn't put me off :snow_laugThanks to everyone who posts comps, I love winning prizes big and small

I think they do do them but they charge £15 instead of £9.50. It was on my booking form when I booked mine at the beginning of the year but I chose to go when it was £9.50. We've managed the Mayday weekend this year and we're in the "Tattie" holidays which is what they are called in Scotland but the October break to everyone else.:j little fire cracker born 5th November 2012 :j0

Hmmm...
So if I'm lucky I may be able to get one in the school holidays but not the summer holidays?
Might be worth a go next year. I'd quite like to take the kids to Blackpool but don't want to go there for our main holiday
