Passport Validity

Hi all,

I'm off to Prague for a stag do in early august. My passport expires in early january next year. I've read on expedia that my passport needs to have at least 90 days remaining from the day of travel, which assuming this is correct I should be fine... however several friends suggest it is 6 months?!

Anyone know anything to the contrary?

The Czech Republic is in the EU - your passport, as long as it is a UK one, just needs to be valid. There are no minimum requirements.

90 days is (I think) for people who also need a visa. 6 months is just plain wrong unless you subscribe to the view that you MIGHT come across an untrained airport checkin clerk who THINKS it's 6 months and therefore denies you boarding.

Although what dzug1 says is strictly true, some airlines impose their own criteria for passport validity.

It was exactly the same with the one bag or 2 bag rule for hand luggage. Even when some airports had relaxed back to 2 bags per person, some airlines maintained the one bag rule.

As it's the carrier who has the final say, to be sure I'd check what the specific airline requirements are.

If you got a new one now then the extra time would be added on, up to 9 months.

You wouldn't care to name such an airline, would you? I don't actually know of any though it's often asserted that some do.
