I have just purchased an AOL free laptop deal and am unable to use word in microsoft windows vista despite the laptop being pre-installed with vista basic. Does anyone know if this is normal?
Thanks in advance
Microsoft Word does not come with Vista, it is a separate program usually provided as part of Microsoft Office. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

Mmm, in that case I am even more confused. I am unable to access word without a key number, even though the word icons etc are on my laptop. Does that mean mean I do/dont have vista/word?

It sounds like it may be installed on your machine but you now need to pay for a key to use it. Could it be a time expired trial that is loaded? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Word is not an integral part of Vista (the operating system).
Did you install Office, or was it on the laptop when you got it?
Do you have any office CD's with a Certificate of Authenticity and Serial?0 -

Thanks for this, it seems rather handy. I have an old microsoft office disc from a previous laptop. Could I just install this in my new vista laptop or are they not compatable?
Many Thanks

Everything was already on the laptop. I dont have any CD's or serial numbers. Does this mean I need to install microsoft office?

Yes you can load this version on, what version is it though? Just make sure you have the serial on the disk so you can use it.
If it was already on when you bought the laptop, when it asks for the serial, if you click cancle you should be able to use it for between 30 - 90 days. Did you try this ?Rules, Rules, Rules .....0 -
