Diesel Prices Europe??

Hi all,

I'm off on holiday in 2 weeks, going camping in Italy. We are traveling throug France, Switzerland and then onto Lake Garda. Does anyone know what the fuel prices are along this route so we can plan ahead and hopefully save a few quid?!

Many Thanks

When I was in France a couple of weeks ago prices were about €1.40/litre in a relatively cheap garage in a town, and up to about €1.65/l in motorway services. This site: http://www.prix-carburants.gouv.fr/ suggests that prices are still around this level.

I haven't driven in Switzerland but looking on the web prices seem to be around 2.25 CHF, so about €1.38. Italy seems to be a bit higher - average €1.53.

Don't forget to account for motorway tolls if you plan to use them.
Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks

Just beware when buying fuel in Italy - a lot of the petrol stations are not manned - you have to put cash into a machine and you are then allowed that much fuel. We had to go searching around the local town when we went to find one that was manned and therefore took credit cards.
Double check as well that you are using diesel for a car as opposed to diesel for a lorry (not sure what the difference was - sorry). I think we paid about 1.5 euros per litre back at the end of may/beginning of june.
  • Thanks for the info so far its the first time i have been abroad in years and I have never driven abroad before so need any advice you got
