Can a dentist charge you £30 simply for a referal letter to see a private consultant about removing your wisdom teeth?? This is scandalous, a major rip off, outrageous!!
Is this legal?

Yes they can.
He couldn't charge for an NHS referral, but to refer you to a private consultant he/she can.
Have you ever had a solicitor write a letter for you for anything? What did that cost/do you think it would cost?
£30 isn't that bad I'd say!!
You say 'simply' writing a referral letter. Do you know what information needs to go into a referral letter? How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0
