Travelling to Brazil? Need money? Be warned!

You may be aware of the very high crime rate in Brazil, if not, be very aware. So much so that ATMs only give out approx 150 reals, (approx £50) or less, after dark. This is throughout Brazil, where there are ATMs and these can be few and far between, depending on where you are. There are many companies that recommend you take US$ with you as this is accepted currency. Dont bother! Reals is the currency and this is what is accepted. Note that banks also do not sell US$ to foreigners in any event, so if you wanted them, you HAVE to go to a money exchange to change reals to dollars, so you get hit by a double wanny of exchange rates. Take reals with you, or get sufficient money from the ATMs in daylight hours.
