hi
I'm a fairly new homeowner and have a query about switching utility suppliers. here is my issue:
We are currently with N Power (supplier before we moved in 8 months ago) on their standard dual fuel tarriff. We are £3 credit for electricity and £127 DEBIT for gas (from the cold winter months!!). I would like to switch suppliers but do not want to pay the £127 back to n power so can i switch electricity only and revert the gas part of my dual fuel to another gas tarriff with n power?? I would then switch the gas supplier at a later date when the debit has decreased!
Also, ho do i switch?!! do i apply to the new company and they do all the work or do i have to give n power an end date?
thanks guys!

Hi Kate, yes you can switch just your electricity to a new supplier but of course you would lose any dual fuel discounts you may get with npower and your new supplier.
To switch you could apply direct to the new supplier or go via one of the comparison sites, some of which offer cashback for using them. Either way the new supplier does all of the work for you, giving npower the required notice and the final reading once you have taken it.0 -
Whilst on a dual fuel tariff, I suspect nPower will not let you leave with an outstanding debt.
I think you will need to contact nPower first to see if they will let you split the supply over 2 different tariffs (i.e. one for electric & one for gas). As they will want to understand why you want to do this because it will probably end up costing you more, you'll need to disclose your intention to leave them for the electricity supply. So why not be upfront with them from the outset and just ask if what you plan to do would be possible?
If it is possible, then you choose another supplier for electricity and agree with them to take over the supply. The new supplier will do all the work and communicate with nPower to agree an actual transfer date - you can't do this youself. You will be advised of the actual switch date."Now to trolling as a concept. ....
