Gaps around window frames

Hi everyone, as a proud first time home owner and a DIY novice I get challenged everyday as I look around my house :o
The latest discovery is that there are some gaps between the walls and the wooden window frames (on the inside). Can anyone tell me how to fill them ? Any advice much apreciated :j

Many thanks !

You may be better with a decorators filler, the sheds do them. This is usually acrylic and is flexible so you can paint it (I think) and can be sanded.

I assume there isn't actually a hole through all the way from the outside to the inside
  • Forgot to tell you gaps are quite big in places, I can put my finger in :D

    Yes. exactly the same.:D

The tube comes with a nozzle, cut the nozzle tip at an angle,, then cut the tube, use a stanley knife, as can be hard to cut, just cut along the ridge, but near the top, then place nozzle on the tube, place the tube in your gun, and away you go.

You say your frames are wooden, do you mean stained, or painted.?

If painted then buy a white tube, if stained, but one that matches your stain.
Dont use silicone sealent, as that is a bu55er to cover with emulsion, get some decoarators caulk, painters mate, or decorators filler in a tube lol.

For your big holes that you can put your finger through, tear a bit of newspaper, damp it, and poke into the hole, make sure the newspaper isnt poking out of the hole, then gently go down with your tube.

I have just had to do this with skirtings as the gaps were quite big, its time consuming, but you only have a couple of holes, so shouldnt take you too long.

Also, get a container/bowl etc, fill with hot washing up liquid, and a damp cloth, and dip your fingers into the washing up liquid, shake the excess water from your fingers, then gently spread the caulk with your finger, the fairy liquid stop the gunk from sticking on your fingers, plus makes the caulk more managable, the damp cloth is incase you need to wipe of any excess from your windows.
  • Thanks a lot misgrace, I'll print this page and follow the instructions exactly. And if something goes wrong I'll just call it practice :D

And with newly discovered confidence, I'll start diy-ing this weekend. Will let you know how it goes :j
