Bear in mind that the power steering won't be working and the brakes won't be very good without the engine running.

Thanks for all your replies. I would normally pay the towing fee but dont have the ready cash at the moment. As for it being dangerous why wouldnt they make it illegal if it was. Plenty of people tow cars around here i have been behind one or two of them. We won't be doing it in rush hour and are going to be doing it at 9pm tonight when the roads are quieter so i can't see it being a problem. I am already facing a hefty fee to fix the electrics i just havent got the money to pay hand over fist for this car for a tow lorry as well. I admit i should have got breakdown cover but as i said a) i didnt have time and b) the car is up for sale or is being traded in and c) didnt have chance to get the money together. If it was a longer distance then i would get a tow lorry but £58 odd just to go up the road is a lot of money.

you still have said what car it is.
if its rear wheel drive drop the prop shaft off it and tow as much as you like.
i dont this a few years ago, only took 10 mins to take out prop shaft.

Join a motoring organisation tonight, leave the car where it is, go in to it in 24 hours, phone breakdown people "yeah I've broken down, can you tow me home"
  • If the manual says its fine to tow, then tow it - just don't exceed the speed and distance they specify.

Not normally a good idea to tow automatics though.
