Deleting Easy transfer files from memory card

I have got an 8gb memory card that is full of an easy transfer file that i created when i was going to replace my laptop , i have since decided not to change laptops but i cannot delete the files from the memory card , i have tried to delete from Explorer view but just get a message that i need permission to delete and the only option is 'retry' that just delivers the same message.
I have tried to reformat the disc but it says it is in use by the system and i cannot continue.
Any ideas gratefully received :mad:
