Bratislava - anyone been?

I fly into Bratislava in September. I'm flying Sky Europe however a friend about to book may use Ryanair.

Do they fly into the same airport? I notice the Ryanair website states the destination as Bratislava (Vienna). From experience I know Ryanair often doesn't fly into actual cities itself.

What is the cheapest way for us to leave the airport and head to 'town' as such? Shuttle bus? If we're flying into different airports is there a shuttle available for both of us? Does it run late into the night (think we'd both arrive about 11pm).

Thanks

I've been many time, my OH is Slovak.

There is only one international airport in Bratislava. Bartislava (Vienna). Both sky europe and ryan air fly to that airport.

The cheapest way into town is bus. Buy a ticket at the Airport information desk, they don't sell tickets on the bus. The tickets are about 18skk for 30 minutes travel (tickets also include the trams) once on the bus you ffed your ticket into the orange machines that are on the bus and it'll print the time on to the ticket for you. Don't ask the driver, he'll likely ignor you. If your journey takes more than 30 minutes then you'll need to buy two tickets.Once the first runs out just get the second one stamped, failure to have a stamped ticket could result in a fine. From the airport to the Old town is about 15 minutes so 1 ticket will be enough.

Once in the town tickets for trams and buses can be bought at cigarette kiosks.

Not sure how late the buses run but will ask the OH when I return home from work. If they don't run late then you'll have to get a taxi, this will cost you upwards of 500skk, unfortunatly as soon as the taxi driver finds out your not local the price will be more.

Hope you enjoy your trip, it's a nice city to visit. If you'd like any more advice I'll be happy to help :)

Ok, a quick google lead me to this

The ticketing system requires passenegers to purchase tickets ahead of the journey either in ticket machines (coins only) at public transport stops or at newstands. Bus, tram and trolleybus drivers do NOT sell tickets. Basic tickets are SKK 14 (EUR 0.46) for journeys with scheduled duration of up to 10 minutes and SKK 18 (EUR 0.59) for journeys up to 30 minutes.One-hour transfer ticket is SKK 22 (EUR 0.73). A separate ticket is required for large luggage. Children under the age of 6 travel for free and under the age of 15 at a 50% discount. Value fares of one day to one week are also available from SKK 90 (EUR 2.97) to SKK 310 (EUR 10.24). Public transport is free for visitors who purchase Bratislava's official Bratislava City Card (SKK 200 (EUR 6.61), SKK 300 (EUR 9.91) or SKK 370 (EUR 12.22) for 1, 2 or 3 days respectively). For night buses operating after 11.30 p.m. two one-hour tickets at SKK 22 (EUR 0.73) each are required (or one ticket for holders of monthly transportation passes).

Immediately upon entering the vehicle passengers must mark their tickets by inserting them in the orange marking machines. These will stamp the time of entry. Ticket inspectors carry out spot checks around the clock and are fond of fining tourists the SKK 1400 (EUR 46.25) fine if they do not follow the procedures outlined above to the letter.

    Airport
From the airport the bus line 61 operates from 4:45 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. The lined runs to the Main Train Station near the centre with connections throughout the city. the journey duration is 25 minutes.

    Train Station
A number of bus and tram lines operate from the station.

    Bus Station
A number of bus and trolleybus lines operate from the station.

    Night Lines
After midnight, night buses cover the city departing from the train station along all major routes. The buses depart at intervals of over 30 minutes.

My husband went on a business trip to Bratislava and thought it was worth both of us going back for a visit.

We are flying from Prague in the middle of August for 4 nights with Sky Europe. He has booked us into the hotel which he used for his trip. I can't remember the name but he said it was nice and as it is 150euros a night, I should hope it will be.

We plan to take a trip down the Danube by hydrofoil and have a day in Vienna whilst we are there.

I am looking forward to it.
