Can anybody help with going to the airport for a last minute holiday?

Hi. Me and my partner are in the process of paying for our wedding so can't really afford to pay much for our holiday. We are wanting to go around 20th July for either 7 nights or 10 nights and aren't really fussed where we go. We got quotes from the travel agents the other day and it was still around £400pp! A friend has recommended that we actually go down to the airport and wait around for cancellations / last minute. Has anybody done this before and have any tips for us? Or, can anybody help with booking a last minute deal as cheap as possible?
Thank you.
Thank you.

Your friend is mis informed. Those days have gone (1970's...)
Turn up at the airport and it will cost a fortune to get on last minute.
Look on Teletext but check out some of the hotels\holidays that are offered from HolidayTruths or Tripadvisor0 -
Not the airport but went to the local travel agent a few years ago and got a week in the Canaries for £175pp, flying the next day. Can be a bit dodgy tho as we didn't know where we were staying until we landed.0

Agree with above postings, you wont get anything just by turning up at the airport. Best bet is going to travel agent and tell them you can leave asap and are not bothered where you go,probably end up with an allocated on arrival deal so you wont know where you are going until you arrive at airport.
All hotels on the allocated on arrival deal will be of a similar standard but its a case of 'you pays your money you take your chance'0 -
www.firstchoice.com Manchester to Parga (Greece) staying 2 star alexis house. 20th July £433.54 for both of you for the week. Click on late deals and remove inflight meals and reduce baggage to 15kg to get his price.
Never been to Parga, but had a look on utube as video came up on google search and looks lovely.

I agree with all the posts going to the airport wont get you anywhere (if you excuse the pun!) Best to go to a local travel agents, give them all your details, budget etc, and a mobile phone number, and say call if anything comes available - then when they have any 'down time' they will search arround for you and call you back when they get something in your price range0

you could try the Thomson auction site, it involves unsold holidays leaving shortly, the nearer the date the better the deal. To reiterate though, do check on the hotels etc.. offered on trip advisor, holiday watchdog etc..you could well be better off staying home if the place is horrendous.. I'm not sure of the link (and wouldn't have the know-how to put it here ) but this auction site has been mentioned previously on here... enjoy yourselves whatever you do and congratulations on your impending wedding...0

So, it turns out that there are no such thing as cheap late deals anymore. Thomas auction site didn't have anything going so soon and the late deals were all coming up around the same price. We booked Gran Canaria in the end up and paid £690 for the 2 of us which wasn't that bad. Just thought I would let everybody know how we got on.
Thanks for your advice though guys.
