Not sure if this is the right place, so forgive me if it isnt.
I bought a new suit from M & S in January this year for my new job, and noticed a couple of problems with the trousers this morning.
Firstly, the zip has worn a hole on the material over it on the fly.
Secondly, the stiching on the bum is wearing through the fabric arounf it.
this could be embarrasing!!
Could i take them back? I dont have the receipt, but ive got all the tags. And i paid by cc so would have the statement.
any help greatly appreciated.

How often had it been worn? Could simply be wear and tear0

pretty much every working day.
on a pair of £59 trousers id expect wear and tear to last a bit longer.:think:0 -
If it was only worn once or twice a week, then it shouldn't wear down so quickly, but if it's been worn daily, then it could quite likely be wear and tear, especially if you sit down a lot!!
Most my mates seem to get through a couple of suits a year, so 6 months of constant wearing would perhaps be about right. I've just put my favourite work trousers in the bin after 2 years (thin at the bum!), but then I only wore them once or twice a week... so if I'd worn them daily, then they would have lasted 6 months.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Why don't you take them back and see?
If they say it's simply wear and tear then you won't have lost anything. M&S are pretty good, so if they think the trousers should have lasted a bit longer they'll say so, and sort it out with no problem.0 -
OH wears suits everyday, and expensive ones at that. TBH I wouldnt expect an M+S one to last any longer than a cheap one, you tend to pay for the cut of the suit rather than the material. An expensive suit is no thicker than a cheap one in most cases.
OH tends to get through a couple of suits a year through wear.0 -

I wear suits every day although don't tend to wear the same one more than once or twice a week. I would expect them to last a year - possibly 2.
That said, you are wearing yours about 4-5 times more than I am. I certainly wouldn't expect my suits to last 8-10 years!
Simple formula I know but I do think it is wear and tear in this instance. Goes to show it is always worth buying an extra pair of trousers!0 -
Marks and Spencer are surprisingly at the cheaper end of the market for good suits and really are only good for about 6 months of almost daily wear.
When OH wore a suit every day he would buy 2 at a time and rotate them for about 10 - 12 months and then buy two more. If it is just the trousers that wear, as is often the case as the jacket sits on the back of the chair unworn, then look to buy two pairs of trosuers with each jacket as that saves money in the long run. Most of the M and S range of suits can be bought as seperates so this is easy to do.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. They aren't expensive suits and 6 months daily wear is tbh reasonable.0

I buy suits with two pairs of trousers, so get a year, but it also depends on the material, and the wear. As already mentioned, take them back and see what they say. If they are unwearable now, even getting £10 is better than nothing, if you speak nicely to them?Remember the time he ate my goldfish? And you lied and said I never had goldfish. Then why did I have the bowl Bart? Why did I have the bowl?0

i took them back and showed the problems.
they agreed that the stiching was wear and tear but the zip wearing through the fabric wasnt.
Unfortunatly, they dont stock the trouses anymore so as a gesature of goodwill they offered me a credit note for £29.
anyone know where i can get ex M&S Stock???lol:think:0
