There are around 30 ABTA tour operators charging surcharges at the moment, there may be many non ABTA ones as well.(certainly most crusie lines are adding fuel surcharges at the moment. However, before worrying, check the terms and conditions of the tour operator you booked with, many of the larger companies guarantee that the price won't change after you booked.
Smaller ones may not have the financial clout to do this and with oil prices rising and the euro strengthening against the pound, some people will find prices rising after booking. The law says the company must pay an amount equivilent to 2% of the original holiday price, so £20 on a £1000 holiday before passing on any increase. ABTA says, but this is not the law, that if the cost rises by 10%, the customer must be gioven the option of cancelling free of charge, as the BBC reported this morning, companies make sure the increase is 9.98% or something similar so you cannot get out of paying the extra.
As oil prices are continuing to rise, it may be a good idea to start looking carefully for companies that guarantee the price at the time you book0
