Hi there
Has anyone any info on free or relativley cheap software that can be used to cut the size of music files. Am looking to make a few ringtones and don't need the full song, just a snippet of it.
Thanks in advance

Audacity as PhilCo recommended is free software which will let you edit mp3 files, it is great. There are a lot of tutorials online too, just google "Audacity tutorial".I don't believe and I never did that two wrongs make a right0

For a very simple - no nonsense piece of software try http://www.mptrim.com/ - dead easy to use:TDo I Need It ? .......... Do I Want It? .......... What Will Happen If I Don't Buy It? .......... I'm So Confused I Need Help!0

I can also recommend MP3DirectCut - a little more complicated to use than the above, but more powerful too.poppy100 -
i have a question related to this. will these programmes allow the original track to stay on the pc as well? i dont want to have to download the whole track onto the pc again after editing the version that is on there for a ringtone.0

Just copy the track beforehand.....0 -
I use Mp3DirectCut and thought it did because you can configure between 32 and 320kbit/s but when I cut and saved a previously recorded MP3 it didn't change the bitratedavetrousers wrote: »Can you reduce the bitrate with any of these?

Another vote for audacity.
You can re-encode at any bitrate, mono, stereo, with the LAME MP3 encoder.
Awesome software, many plugins.
I've recorded lo-fi multi-track demos for bands using this.Russia is HERE0 -
