Argos - Damaged desk - What should I do?

Has anyone ever dealt with Argos Customer Services? We've been looking for a new computer desk for a while. Decided on one in Argos and OH bought today after work.
He's been building it for a few hours and just went to put the final table top on, when we noticed one of the corners is completely battered. It's like it's been dropped on it's corner from a great height, all split and broken.
Now I know argos would just say to return it to store, but it's completely built now, was in hundreds of little bits as it has drawers and shelves etc on it, and there is no way he should spend the whole night putting it together only to take it all apart to return to store and then build another one. I've tried phoning customer services tonight, who supposedly close at 10pm, but it rings a couple of times and then cuts me off. I will try again in the morning, I am just wondering how to deal with it. I have taken pictures of the offending desk corner in order to email them (although it doesn't seem that simple on their site) - I WILL NOT undo everything and take it back, they have to send me a replacement desktop. I just don't think it'll be that simple when I speak to them, so I'm wondering if anyone has had any dealings with Argos' customer service and what I should do. I really need this computer desk, and am really disappointed that it's damaged. Any tips/ideas would be gratefully received. (I know this sounds a bit dramatic but when you've spent the whole evening building it, its VERY frustrating to find out its damaged).
Many thanks in advance.

if it was bought instore then go on to the website and reserve a new desk at a local store (preferrably the one you bought it from, but it doesnt matter if its another one).

then take the damaged part and your receipt back to the store, explain the situation, and ask them to replace the damaged part (explain that you've built the rest and dont wish to take it apart to return it, only to have to rebuild another one).

be polite and you should have no problems. hope you get it sorted

I can't see how you blame Argos , read the instructions and most probably the first thing on the list is CHECK CONTENTS.

Would it be possible to just replaced the damaged top, making dissasemble and reassemble, as well as transportation far more easier for you.

    I just bought a wooden trolley http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/8408460/Trail/searchtext>TROLLY.htm
and as I was putting the wheels on one broke
took the pack of 4 wheels back with receipt and they just opened a box with another one in and exchanged the wheels.
Didn't need to dismantle and return everything.
