After hours of messing around, technophobe me managed to get my Belkin wireless router set up and running on my Telewest Broadband internet. How do I protect my router from anybody around who wants to use it?
If anybody is kind enough to reply.... can you explain how to do this in simple terms

As other posters have explained, turning on encryption is probably the most important. You can hide your SSID as well if you want and specify MAC addresses allowed to connect. Although Encryption can be broken, SSID's discovered and MAC addresses spoofed, they all help a little bit. You will deter 99% of hackers.
Well done on bothering to secure your wireless device, you wouldn't believe how many people don't and wonder why they have problems with chancers using their routers. You only have to take Netstumbler round on a laptop too see how many unsecured networks people have.
