Low Income - Current Account

Options
I'm having to pay my ISP by direct debit, well when I say pay, I mean I will do when I can.

I can't pay them at the moment simply because I've only got a savings account, do I need a current account to pay direct debit, if so which is the best for me?

I'm 21 and currently work freelance, my earnings are erratic and sometimes nonexistent, i'm unlikely to go overdrawn and would be only needing the account to pay my ISP £10 per month.

AFAIK and in general direct debits can only be set up from current accounts... in fact I cant think of any saving accounts that allows a direct debit to be drawn on it.
Any current account will do you dont need anything fancy :) There are a number that offer interest free buffers of up to £100 and even more that offer a larger automatic overdraft... or you could just get a 'basic' bank account.

  • I have savings accounts with TSB and Barclays, all I need really is a basic current account that I can place some money in to use to pay a few bills online. I went in both banks today and enquired about it, but they seem to make it sound complicated and came out of there with the paperwork bewildered.

Just looking at TSB's website, they have a basic bank account which is just like the savings account I have now, except that you can make payments through direct debit.
  • I have a basic bank account with Nationwide which i have all my DD's taken out of. Its a basic cash card account but with no credit facilities which mean no cheque book or debit card.
