Generic.ABT Trojan

I'm brainstorming for a friend. His PC runs AVG and reports the above trojan. He can put it into the virus vault but cn't delete it. Then when he starts up his pc it comes up again.
Any ideas on how to get rid. He's tried Trendmicro Housecall but kept getting an error message "no resources".
Spybot etc won't even find it.
