Help!!??

Okayyyyy I'll start again as aparently I wasn't logged in last time I tried to post this.

Got a message on my laptop that Macafee had stopped a trojan. Thought everything would be ok, not so.

When starting up, screen comes up ok, then icons flash and disapear along with the taskbar.

Have done a scan, an online scan too and clicked repair/delete to everything it says, but its still not working ok, when going to a different user the icons/taskbar stay for a bit longer but when asking it to do anything they disappear too. Have now disabled the wireless connection as worried as to what is happening.

Have just finished another scan and it says it found

downloader.gen.a

it says its quarentined but it still doesn't work ok, am not sure what or if anything has been downloaded lately, I haven't downloaded anything but my stepdaughter was here at weekend and she is a bit trigger happy with clicking ok to things. I tried to do a system restore earlier but it would only let me do one about an hour before? no option for anything earlier.

Have tried safe mode, just blank screen with safe mode in each corner

Did task master and explorer exe, it started but then icons flashed on and off again, then went again.

No, it didn't just tried again and no start button. Do not have a windows CD, according to info with this laptop, you have to make your own recovery disc, have tried this on 3 occasions and it goes ok till it tells you to insert the 3rd disc, then nothing. Have been in email contact with HP for 18 months now regarding this, so if I have to format and re-install am not sure how much will work! HP just send me standard email reply with instructions that are no use whatsoever. I did try ringing but never got to speak to a human.

Ok, thanks for your help, will try what you have said. Have a bit of stuff on there I would like to keep, but maybe able to save it as if I go onto OH's identity it lasts longer than mine ie the icons etc don't go straight away, that is how I was able to do the virus scan. Most is pics of my new granddaugher but if all else fails I can get them sent to me again.

Will try the backup I have and if that doesn't work, I will throw everything out of the window........not that it will do much damage as I live in a bungalow.

I did have a problem on this pc at one time (that was also after stepdaugher had been on it), it wouldn't start at all, just got message that files windows needed were missing, so did the re-install, lost all on pc, I was ok about it but stepdaughter wasn't lol, to this day I think she thinks I did it on purpose. Was talking to my daughter tonight and she said friends of theirs had to wipe pc due to something their daughter had downloaded from bebo, I know SD is on bebo a lot when she is here so have asked daughter to find out a bit more for me.

ok, thanks for that, will try it tomorrow, had enough of it tonight, am just glad I still have this pc to ask questions.
